Alex Ovechkin will return to the Washington Capitals for a 22nd NHL season after signing a one-year contract, ending months of speculation about whether the NHL’s all-time leading goal scorer would retire. The incentive-laden deal carries a $4.25 million average annual value, including a $1 million base salary, a $3.25 million signing bonus and performance bonuses tied to games played that could increase its overall value.
