The Boston Celtics have signed ex-NY Knicks center Mitchell Robinson to a three-year, $47.4 million contract. The agreement, which cannot become official until the NBA’s free agency moratorium ends, includes a player option for the third season. Robinson, 28, gives the Celtics a proven rim protector and one of the league’s premier offensive rebounders. He averaged 5.7 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 60 regular-season games last season while shooting better than 72% from the field. During New York’s championship postseason, he provided valuable minutes off the bench, averaging 4.8 points and 5.5 rebounds while supplying the physical presence and interior defense that became a key part of the club’s title run.
